Well.

I didn’t realize it had been so long since I’d written here. I actually started to post an update last week, but then I saw the title of the previous entry, and it bummed me out.

I was really upset by Chris Cornell’s death, even though I only know a handful of Soundgarden songs, about three Audioslave songs and a couple of Temple of the Dog songs. But they are songs I love.

Also, I wasn’t really doing well mentally or emotionally, and I’m generally triggered by talk of suicide prevention. I know, weird, right? It just sets me off to hear people say things like “Don’t be afraid to reach out and talk to someone if you need help. There’s no shame.”

Anyway, a lot has happened since the last entry. I only just this week figured out how to get my music software working again, and I still haven’t hooked up everything I need for recording.

I still haven’t recorded Episode 1 of Random Rewatch, but I still plan on doing it now that I have my music stuff working again.

I canceled Zero Plus Zero, but I think it might get resurrected. Might. I mean, pretty much every episode has been a disaster, but it’s something to do.

This last thing I recorded was an interview with my Twitter friend Christin. It took a lot of editing, but it was a lot of fun. (You can find it here: http://zeropluszeroshow.libsyn.com/awkward-interviews-christin-haws )

Oh, and I joined a Facebook group for cartoonists that has weekly prompts, but I don’t think I want to participate. I drew one comic and the process was kinda a nightmare.

For now, I think I will just focus on music and podcasts, even though neither really has any potential to improve my future.

But the future looks pretty bleak with the current administration anyway.

The podcast episode I was supposed to record last weekend that got pushed to this weekend is now bumped to next weekend.

I had to reinstall Windows on my computer and am now downloading and reinstalling all the necessary software. I think the biggest pain will be adding instrument definitions in Cakewalk. I always forget how. I also always say I'm going to write the process down so I'll have it the next time, but I never do.

I'm having trouble getting iTunes to install as well. I keep getting an error.

The Redbud Festival is this weekend. My sister wants to go. I also want to go see Get Out before I miss it.

I decided to push Random Rewatch ahead of Zero Plus Zero. I recorded Episode 0 last night, and I'm going to try to record the first real episode this weekend. After that I'll go back to Episode 13 of ZPZ.

Conveniently, I randomly drew "Revelations" from Season 3 as the first episode to cover. I already wrote a song for that episode for my 2015 NaSoAlMo album, so I'm ahead on that front.

Again, I don't think this podcast will appeal to many people (if any), but I'm glad to finally get started on it.

So I guess tonight I'll see if I can set up the podcast feed...

My weekend didn't go as planned.

Saturday was mostly spent running errands. Then I raked leaves for about an hour.  Most of the rest of the evening was wasted trying to repair dvds with one of those cheap dvd repair systems. I suppose I'll waste a few more bucks on some sandpaper before I shell out money for one of the more expensive systems.

I didn't quite get around to the Adobe Illustrator tutorials today. I couldn't get my pen tablet to recognize the pen even after reinstalling the drivers. I've had nothing but problems since Windows 10 forced its way into my life. Lately I've been having problems with the audio stuttering whenever I try to play a blu-ray and also with my computer losing the connection to wi-fi. It disappears until I restart my computer. Also, it hangs up during restart. I might try running a repair program over night.

I did definitely decide to do Random Rewatch as a podcast and spiffed up the logo a little bit. It's just a personal project that I don't really expect anyone to have any interest in. Originally, I conceived the project as a series of short videos, but I don't really feel to comfortable in front of a camera these days. I'd rather hide behind a microphone. I hope to have the first episode up by the first of April.

In the meantime, I'm working on episode 13 of my other podcast.

March!

In February, I participated in The RPM Challenge again. The goal is to record 10 songs or 35 minutes of music. I failed. I ended up with 3 mediocre songs written and recorded during the last weekend. I haven't decided yet if I'll record some more songs and release it as an "album" or what.

My mom's been sick, so I'm not sure what my schedule is this weekend, but at the moment my plans are:

1. Do a few Adobe Illustrator tutorials

2. Do a photography tutorial (assuming my camera still works since I haven't used it for so long)

3. Put up projector screen - I was using my video backdrop as a projector screen, but I took it down a while back because it took up so much space. I bought a smaller 6 X 9 backdrop, (I think the other was 10 X 12), so I'll see if I can make it work.

I'd like to go see Get Out at the theater, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Alright, so it's been a while since I've kept a journal with any regularity.

I used to write a lot, although much of that was just writing myself in circles rather than actually facing things and breaking down any barriers that stood in the way of progress. I wrote about my intentions a lot, but I was never really good at following through with anything. I do think it did me some good. If nothing else, I at least have a record of some of the craziness where my memory fails. And it does fail. A lot.

Livejournal was once my go to place to dump all the stuff floating around in my head, and it still is to a certain extent, although most of those entries end up private and unfinished. In the last year or so Twitter has been my main source of news and entertainment, and, unfortunately, also the place where I dump a lot of those stray thoughts. It's not a good way for me to keep track of things though. If I tweet a goal at the beginning of the month, I have usually forgotten it by the end of the month, and it's not so easy to scroll back and find it.

I've been doing fairly well at keeping track of what bills I need to pay and when with a simple text document on my computer, but I've yet to find a system to keep track of chores and projects. I think keeping an online journal again could be helpful.

I have blogs and journals strewn all across the internet, so it is mostly a choice of which one I want to re-purpose. Since I have a permanent Dreamwidth account with the ability to cross-post  to Livejournal, it seems as good a choice as any.

I'm not sure what my goals are at this point. I'm not good at multi-tasking, so I expect it to take some time to get organized and figure out what I want to do. I have two concrete projects lined up for the next month. Everything else is a bit of a question mark.

Possible things I want to do:

Design things for Zazzle or similar sites - I've been talking about this for a while, and it's one of those things that never seems to get done. I've been watching tutorials and doing some practice with Photoshop, Illustrator and Manga Studio, but I don't feel like my skills are where they need to be in order to  design something to sell. I've not done much practicing the last couple of weeks because I haven't had much time to myself. This is one of the goals that at least has potential to earn a little extra money if I get serious about it.

Random Rewatch - I've been talking about this for a while too. I would watch an episode of The X-Files at random and report on it. I will definitely start that in the next few months. It will either be a YouTube series or a podcast.

Songwriting - I will still be doing various songwriting projects throughout the year. I had thought about giving up songwriting and focusing on my comic strip again, but I just don't think I can give the comic strip the attention it needs.

Podcasting - My podcast is a joke, really. I often refer to it as a fake podcast. I think I'm a horrible host, and I hate the sound of my own voice, but I've had some fun with it. I mean, it's completely embarrassing that I would put this out into the universe, but what's done is done.

And there you have it. As you can see, I'm still the same clueless dipstick I've always been, but hopefully I can make some changes for the better this year.

Alrighty, this is just a test. This is ONLY a test. To see if cross-post is working and whatnot. I say "whatnot" a lot now for some reason.

Oh, yeah, hi, I'm back.

I really wish this had fallen on a work day...

Day 2: make a bulleted list of everything that happened in your day

-Didn't find any trace.
-Came back home.
-More internet browsing.
-Sister asks me to make Lost Dog sign.

-Dug vintage telephone out of storage to clean up. Decided to clean it later.
-Checked mail. Received comic book for me; magazine for my sister
-Looked at comic book (X-Files Season 10 Art Gallery #1). Decided it wasn't worth the $4 + shipping I paid for it. They should have just had it for free to look at on their website.

-Moved laptop back to bedroom.
-Browsed more license plates.
-Got ready to watch dvd from Netflix.
-Discovered disc is broken.
-Reported broken disc to Netflix.
-Decided to watch Shanghai instead.
-Couldn't stay awake; decided to just go to bed
-Ended up spending an hour researching how to capture screenshots from blu-rays; still don't know
-Posted to Dreamwidth
-Presumably went to bed.

I left out a lot of things like how many times I went to the bathroom (I was sick. It was many.) among other things.

I had forgotten that Michelle Obama was supposed to appear on iCarly this season.

The episode aired on Monday night, and she was very enjoyable in it, as I should have expected she would be.

I played around with Illustrator, Photoshop and my Wacom tablet this evening.

This was my first attempt to digitally ink and color a comic in a long time. Not bad, considering how rusty I am. Eventually, I should be able to get the hang of it.

I think I might give this one another try at inking.

This is the classic Journey pose.

Since I stupidly bid on some watercolor paints on ebay, and my prayers to be outbid went unanswered, I will take this as a sign that the universe wants me to paint something. What, I don't know.

So, I have to get up in a few hours to go pick up my paycheck. $$$!!!

I don't even want to go anywhere now.

I could go to the movies, but the only thing playing that I want to see is Super 8 and POTC is still playing at 10pm. The trailer for the Transformers movie looked cool...until I realized it was a Transformers movie.

I've been meaning to go to bed for the last 4 hours.

There's nothing to report. I really haven't done anything the last few days except clean house and watch X-Files.

Saturday, I woke up with a horrible headache. We got a load of stuff together to take to the dump, including the old couch, which has been sitting under the carport in all its white trash glory. Then I went back to bed and slept most of the day...and stayed up most of the night.

Sunday, I slept most of the day, did some cleaning and then stayed up most of the night cleaning off my hard drive some. I still couldn't sleep so I watched a couple more X-Files episodes.

Today, I got up at 10:30am and my mom's truck wouldn't start. I tried to jump it off, but we ended up having to take the battery off and take it to Wal-mart to exchange it. First time I've ever changed a battery. I couldn't have lifted it by myself, though. The new one had a handle, but the old one had nothing to hold on to.

I got the guitar out for about five minutes, but I couldn't find a pick and I couldn't get it tuned very well.

Kim ordered me to get out of the house tomorrow, but I don't know what I'd do, really.

Okay, correction: I will not be hooked to this show.

Apparently, Pretty Little Liars is the teen version of Desperate Housewives.

I wanted to like DH when it came out because of Teri Hatcher, but I don't think I ever made it through an entire episode. It's the same with PLL. I want to like it because, in addition to Annabeth Gish, it also has Holly Marie Combs, but, alas, there is too much soap opera in the mix. I did still enjoy their scenes, however.

ETA: I finished the episode, and it got a little better. A little less soap and a little more mystery. Also, AG had a couple more scenes, so that helped.
rustingwillpowr: (The Gish List - Lie To Me EMT)
I'm downloading the first episode of the second season of Pretty Little Liars from iTunes...for FREE!

I've never seen the show, but Annabeth Gish plays the girls' therapist in a recurring role this season.

So far, iMDb only lists her in the first episode, so I was going to maybe purchase that one episode. But it's FREE! I love free.

Of course, now I'll be hooked.
