Since I stupidly bid on some watercolor paints on ebay, and my prayers to be outbid went unanswered, I will take this as a sign that the universe wants me to paint something. What, I don't know.

There are 21 tubes, apparently, even though the seller advertised 22. They are as follows:

Cadmium Orange (2 tubes)

Viridian

Burnt Sienna

Vandyke Brown - which is named for Flemish painter Anthony van Dyck, who also has a type of beard and an outfit named after him.

Indian Red (which is named after a soil found in India and not after American Indians)

Burnt Umber (2 tubes)

Yellow Ochre

Cadmium Yellow

Lemon Yellow (Nickel Titanate)

Cobalt Blue

Permanent Sap Green - (Permanent sap probably describes me as well)

Manganese Blue

Hooker's Green - named for William Hooker, a British illustrator and the official artist of the Royal Horticulture Society. I'm so disappointed that it wasn't named for a prostitute.

Sepia

Cadmium Yellow Pale

Rose Madder Genuine

Aureolin (aka Cobalt Yellow)

Brown Madder

Permanent Rose

I could probably use a few more tubes of basic colors like Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson and Ultramarine Blue. Maybe a Pthalo Green or something. I wish I could find that one instruction book I had that had great pictures in it. It had real photographs instead of just illustrations.

I used to watch a lot of painting shows on PBS when I was a kid, especially Bob Ross. Alizarin Crimson sounded like the most exotic color. Alizarin Crimson is named after the organic dye alizarin, found in the madder plant.

It's mentioned in the song "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" by Donovan, except he mispronounces it as Alizarian. (I've only heard the Sarah McLachlan cover.

I also bought another set of brushes. They are synthetic, but they are Winsor & Newton, which is a pretty good brand.

All info in this entry came from wikipedia, of course.
